OSRS 1 to 99 Woodcutting Guide

  • by

Woodcutting is one of those skills in OSRS that give you the opportunity to make OSRS Gold as you progress (unless you are power-leveling). Anyhow, we thought we’d tag along to guide you through your journey.

Why train it?

There are several reasons why you should train your Woodcutting skill. It’s a necessary skill to help you travel up the river Lum with stops at Lumbridge, Champion’s Guild, Barbarian Village, Edgeville, and the Wilderness.

Woodcutting is also a helpful skill to make osrs money in the game, especially if you’re at the early stages with not many options to choose from. Besides that, it also acts as a supplement to train other skills like Fletching, Construction, and Fire Making.

Getting Started

All you need to start Woodcutting is an axe. Remember to use the best possible axe for faster chopping and better XP rates. You don’t really have to equip the axe to use it, so don’t worry about increasing your Attack level.

The axe you use for cutting wood depends on your Woodcutting level. For instance, you can use the Bronze and Iron Axe at level 1, followed by Steel Axe at level 6, Black at level 11, Mithril at level 21, Adamant at level 31, Rune at level 41, and Dragon at level 61.

Useful Equipment

Dragon Axe offers a +3-level boost in your Woodcutting when the special attack is activated. It lets you cut trees that are 3 levels higher than where you stand.

The Infernal Axe gives you the privilege to get XP in Fire Making while Woodcutting. It has a 1/3 chance of burning logs as you chop wood.

With the addition of the ‘Song of the Elves’ quest, you can now get a better tool called Crystal Axe. The characteristics are similar to that of a Dragon or Infernal Axe, and it requires you to have level 71 Woodcutting to chop down trees.

The Lumberjack Outfit grants a 2.5% XP bonus in Woodcutting when equipped. You can obtain it from the Temple Trekking minigame. The percentage may not seem like much at first but you’ll notice the difference at higher levels.

Quests

To skip the early levels and start straight from 26, you can consider completing the following quests: Monk’s Friend, Enlightened Journey, Recipe for Disaster (Skrach Uglogwee), and Icthlarin’s Little Helper. There are also other quests that offer Woodcutting XP: Grim Tales, Song of the Elves, The Fremennik Isles, The Eyes of Gouphrie, Animal Magnetism, and Heroes Quest.

Level 1 to 30

You’ll first start by chopping down regular trees using an Iron Axe. You can switch to Steel Axe at level 6, followed by Black Axe at level 11 for better efficiency.

You can find regular trees almost anywhere around OSRS as they’re quite common. You won’t be able to make much profit off of them cause they’re relatively cheap. However, you can store them to train your Fire Making in the future.

From level 15 onwards, you can start chopping Oak Trees all the way to level 30. These trees are also common throughout the game, but there are a few decent spots to consider, such as east of the Draynor Village bank, or behind the Lumbridge Castle. Make sure you upgrade your Axe to Mithril.

Level 30 to 99

From here on out, Willow will your best bet for level 99 Woodcutting. You can upgrade your Axe to Adamant at level 31, followed by Rune at level 41. The best spot for F2P Players is south of the Draynor Village Bank, whereas for members it is near the entrance of the Barbarian Outpost.

At level 60, a good suggestion would be to head over to the Woodcutting Guild, which is in the southwest corner of Great Kourend (Hosidius House). But hey, you’ll need at least 75% house favor to enter the guild.

You’ll get a +7 boost in Woodcutting within the guild, so you can continue to train there all the way to level 99. Make sure you upgrade your axe to Dragon at level 61, while also utilizing its special attack for a temporary +3-level boost.

Level 90 to 99 (Members)

Members also have the option to chop Redwoods. Unlike Yews & Magic trees, they become available really quickly to players. If you’re not interested in maximizing the hourly XP, you can switch to Redwoods from level 90 onwards (Woodcutting Guild).

Blisterwood Tree (Alternative)

Within the Arboretum of Darkmeyer, you can find the Blisterwood Tree. You can spam click and utilize the 3-click method while training there. The tree also has importance in making a weapon for the Sins of the Father quest. That aside, you can get about 90k to 100k Woodcutting XP per hour here.

Conclusion

There you have it; a complete and efficient guide to level 99 Woodcutting. There are always two paths to everything and the same goes for this skill. You can either choose to focus on XP or make RSGP as you level up, which is entirely up to you. Good luck!
