I know I said I wouldn’t do it, but finally after my hubby quiting EQ2 and leaving me alone in a cold dark world of the fae where everyone else my level seemed to have gone back to their alts leaving me to fend for myself and unable to group… I decided that I need a change. Of course I am still playing EQ2 but it is going very slowly, and so to fill the time I installed World of Warcraft and created a Blood Elf. I still have trouble believe that they are evil. I mean a bit snobby, but they are elves after all, but the evil isn’t settling too well with me.
This isn’t exactly the first time I played the game. I did buy it when it came out, but EQ2 stole my heart, and I was unable to commit to the world of Azeroth. Now here I am 2 years later giving it another shot. Will it steal my heart and soul and make me dream of it night and day? I really don’t think so.
I am having fun with the game, but as I noted the last time I tried it, it is very much easier than EQ2, and I haven’t quite decided if I like that or not. I am only level 13 so perhaps that will change. I think in order for me to stick around it will probably have to get a bit harder, at least a tad. There seems to me, at least not at this point, that in grouping there isn’t a need for real structure, and every class doesn’t have its place. Everyone just seems to be killing the mobs as fast as possible, and it doesn’t matter if the mage or the paladin pull the mob, they will most likely unless completely incompetent still live.
Something else that hasn’t changed in World of Warcraft is the community. General chat is filled with player arguing back and forth and calling each other names. If you ask a question you will most likely get very rude comments and not even a kind answer. If you are lucky the one nice player that is on at the time will send you a tell and answer you, and I did have that same player escort me to where I needed to be, but this is a rarity.
When you are out trying to kill a mob and have to clear to get to a named, someone will just run up past you and kill it with no consideration as to the fact that you have been trying to get to that point. I suppose they assume you are just being a kind hearted robin hood with nothing better to do than clear mobs for other players. They don’t even ask if they can group with you! Several time since playing if I need a mob and I see someone else is looking for it or clearing to it I will ask if I can join their group. I don’t know why this is so different in this game? Maybe because mobs spawn so fast? Even so if someone did that to you everytime you would never get it killed!
I am only level 13 so I will give it some time. I enjoy EQ2 and maybe I am becoming something of a fanboi/girl, but I really don’t think so. The options on the market as of right now are pretty slim. I tried Vanguard and I had high hopes for it and it totally blew. It can’t even hold an candle to EQ2. I suppose I will just have to wait until Pirates of the Burning Sea and Warhammer Online come out:)
Happy Gaming Friends!

I finished WoW, start to end, in six months. I hit 60 in two months, and the next four months were just dealing with foul-mouthed children, boring boring boring faction work, and more guild drama than I’d ever seen.
Most WoW players couldn’t handle a MMO where they had to work as a team. Nearly everyone in WoW is looking out for Number 1. And if the guild they are in isn’t getting them the gear they want fast enough, they’ll just join another one. No loyalty and no stability in the community.
I just couldn’t take it. EQ2 afterward seemed like such a wonderful vacation!
But have fun with WoW! The best thing about WoW is that you never once have to group with other people, so you can find an isolated spot and just do your own thing without having to deal with idiots.
I agree with you and brenda. I am having fun playing it with you however. I also know its not something thats going to hold our attentions very long. I just hope we can get atleast a few months out of it until summer. But you will prolly quit and go back to EQ2, and I will spend more time with BF2142. My biggest problem is the game is like a playschool edition of an mmorpg. Its easy as hell, you can play half asleep and finish quests. Which aren’t interesting or fun. The community is by far the most immature craptastic group of players I have ever came across. Obviously its were all the people who can’t handle a real game go, since EQ2 is way to hard for them. =P But as Adele said I am going to stick it out for awhile nothing else to do. And since I know I’m a more superior gamer them 99% of the pure WOW players they are going to be screwed when I level up and start in on some PVP action. Nothing like running around killing 13 year olds!
Wow, mh ive played it since it came out, in the beginnign ti was all wonder and happiness, many because i was so in love with the storyline.
WoW has upside and downsides, i would say the biggest downside is that its like CS just online. I usually play on RP realms, but the “old” ones exept me started raiding instead of roleplaying, and it still occupies them. Then spring 2006 i got an offer to join some RL mates on a server, and it was not an RP server, but there was more mature players there than i saw on my old rp realm.
I think many players play to annoy others, and thats why i mainly play with friends to have a good time, but i do have to agree on whats said in these comments.
Hopefully Warhammer Online will bring the much needed proper slaughter of eacother and roleplay.
By the way: if your gonna look for a guild, find a small one with nice members, the small ones is always nicest. And also convince them to never merge another guild for raiding ( it never works, ive witnessed three of these and all the three guilds went straight don the toilet )
Personally id avoid wow because of the huge Amounts of cs’kids and powergamers but i signed up for 2 montsh of play to test TBC so im stuck until march.
And apologizes for my Typo’s, english is not my main language and its very late 😉

Yeah I am looking forward to Warhammer as well! I think it will be a nice mix. Pirates of the Burnings Sea is gonna rock as well!
Given any consideration to Vanguard? It sounds like you’re looking for something a bit more complex then WoW and on par with Eq2 so to speak. With three spheres to level up (adventuring, crafting, and diplomacy) mounts at level 10 (Free at that with a diplomacy skill of 40+) and various other unique qualities, it may be worth looking into.
Wait a sec- you tried out Vanguard ? And didn’t blog about it ?
Come on! Give forth ! We all want to know what you thought of it.
Vanguard,…
SOE should just force them to call it EQ3, because it is. The UI is the same. The items are the same. The stats are the same. It has a few new systems, some of which are crap.
And as to not posting about Vanguard, why waste more time on a pile of crap?

I’m not sure about PotBS, but Warhammer at least looks pretty.
I’m a WH40K player who has investigated playing Warhammer Fantasy for a while, so WHO looks like a good time, at least for a while.
Of course I’m the same guy that was a hardcore Earth & Beyond player til I learned there was minimal high-end content.
They released it with a lvl cap of 75. The initial content was preped only up to 50-ish, with planned updates to add high-end content on a monthly basis. The game had high hopes, but crap follow through from the Devs.
My main had maxed out her spacecraft and had millions in the bank at level 47. The only way left to level for my character was to grind out a particularly nasty lvl 60 mob as part of a well disciplined full group, for 15 levels til I had to find the next grindstone,… Blah. Game didn’t even last a year.
